Farm Management Software in Africa: What Farmers Should Look For in 2026

Tendai, founder of StokData8 min read

StokData is built around one core job: helping farm owners run and understand the farm from one place.

Poultry + livestock records. Workers. Payroll. Inventory. Security. Sales. Expenses. Local currencies. Smart-farm monitoring. Remote visibility. AI support.

Running a farm is bigger than recording animals. You need to know what livestock and poultry you have, what workers are doing, what stock is being used, what the farm is costing you, what you are selling and what is happening when you are not physically there.

That is the problem StokData Africa was built to solve.

StokData brings poultry and livestock records, workers, payroll, inventory, security, sales, expenses, local currencies, smart-farm monitoring and remote farm visibility into one platform.

Increasingly, farmers are not only looking for somewhere to store records. They want technology that helps them understand those records and manage the farm more effectively. That is where StokData AI fits into the StokData ecosystem: giving farmers another way to work with the information generated by their farm.

But StokData is not the only African-built agricultural technology platform. Across Africa, companies such as Jaguza, FarmArk, ePoultry, Afarmacco and FarmHouse by eMsika are solving different parts of the farming journey.

The important question is not "Which farm app is the best?" It is: "What problem do I actually need technology to solve on my farm?"

Disclosure: StokData is our product. Other platforms are described from their public websites, app-store listings and available press coverage as of September 2026. Product availability, countries served, pricing and features can change. If a provider believes something is inaccurate, email support@stokdata.net and we will review and correct it.

African farm technology is solving different problems

Most agricultural technology platforms broadly fall into two groups.

  • Farm-operations platforms help owners manage animals, poultry, workers, stock, expenses, reporting and day-to-day activity.
  • Agricultural ecosystems combine records with services such as marketplaces, finance, inputs, veterinary support, training, extension services or smart-farm hardware.

Neither approach is automatically better. A farmer looking for financing and feed suppliers may need something very different from a diaspora farm owner trying to understand what is happening on a farm hundreds or thousands of kilometres away.

Here is how some of the better-known African platforms differ.

StokData Africa

Built around running the farm

StokData focuses on the operational side of poultry and livestock farming.

Farmers can manage poultry alongside cattle, goats, sheep and pigs while also keeping track of workers, payroll and payslips, inventory, sales, expenses, security activity and farm reporting.

It is also designed for farms where the owner may not always be physically present. That makes remote farm visibility an important part of the product.

StokData supports multiple currencies and is designed for farms operating across different African markets.

Where StokData fits

StokData is particularly relevant when your biggest question is: "How do I actually run and understand my farm from one place?"

Rather than operating as an agricultural marketplace, StokData focuses on the internal operation of the farm. It does not currently sell chicks, feed or vaccines, provide agricultural loans or directly match farmers with buyers.

Think of StokData less as an agricultural marketplace and more as a farm operating system.

Jaguza — Uganda

Jaguza takes a different approach. The Ugandan livestock platform has been built strongly around sensor-based livestock monitoring, animal tracking, health alerts and access for farmers who may not rely entirely on smartphones.

Its publicly described capabilities include cattle monitoring, temperature and activity information, veterinary connections and SMS/USSD-style access. That makes Jaguza particularly interesting for farmers whose priorities include livestock sensors, health monitoring and feature-phone accessibility.

How this differs from StokData

Jaguza's strength is strongly connected to livestock monitoring technology. StokData's focus is broader day-to-day farm operations across both poultry and livestock — including workers, payroll, stock, costs, sales, security and remote management. These are two different problems.

FarmArk — Uganda

FarmArk is another African-built livestock management platform. Founded in Uganda, the platform publicly positions itself around livestock owners and managers and has also welcomed international farms into beta as it expands.

FarmArk is particularly interesting because it is one of the African platforms built specifically around livestock management rather than operating primarily as an agricultural marketplace.

How this differs from StokData

Both platforms are relevant to livestock farmers. StokData extends its operational model across livestock and poultry, while also placing significant emphasis on workers, payroll, inventory, security, sales, expenses and remote-owner visibility. Farmers comparing the two should look closely at species coverage, employee access, reporting, support, pricing and availability in their country.

ePoultry — Kenya and East Africa

ePoultry represents another model entirely. It combines poultry management with a broader agricultural ecosystem.

Its publicly described services include poultry records, analytics, veterinary and extension support, smart-farm monitoring, employee workflows, input credit, marketplace access and buyer connections. For a poultry farmer in Kenya or East Africa, that ecosystem can be valuable because technology is being combined with services surrounding the production process.

How this differs from StokData

StokData does not attempt to provide the same marketplace or agricultural finance ecosystem. Instead, it concentrates on managing the farm itself. Another major difference is species coverage. While ePoultry is strongly poultry-focused, StokData manages poultry alongside cattle, goats, sheep and pigs. So the difference is largely one of ecosystem versus farm operations.

Afarmacco — Nigeria

Public descriptions of Afarmacco position it as a Nigerian poultry platform focused on record keeping, production planning and a trade-exchange model.

Reported functionality includes medication and vaccination planning and helping poultry farmers identify potential off-takers before birds reach maturity. For poultry farmers, that kind of trade-oriented approach can solve an important problem: finding markets for birds.

How this differs from StokData

StokData is not a trade exchange. Its focus is managing operations inside the farm — livestock and poultry records, workers, payroll, stock, expenses, sales, security and remote oversight. Farmers considering Afarmacco should confirm its current features, pricing and service availability directly.

FarmHouse by eMsika — Zambia

FarmHouse by eMsika is perhaps the clearest example of an agricultural ecosystem.

Its Zambian platform combines farm inputs, a marketplace, poultry and livestock trading, training, consultations, farm visits, community features, poultry-management tools and AI-powered agricultural advice. Farmers can access products and services around the farming process rather than only keeping farm records.

How this differs from StokData

Again, the distinction comes down to the problem being solved. FarmHouse helps farmers access an agricultural ecosystem. StokData concentrates on what happens inside the farm business itself — records, people, wages, inventory, security, income, expenses and remote visibility.

Which type of farm platform do you need?

Instead of asking which platform has the longest feature list, start by asking what you actually need.

The point is not that every farmer needs the same technology. The point is to understand what job you are hiring the technology to do.

Where StokData may not be the right fit

Building a trustworthy brand also means being clear about what your product does not do.

You primarily need a marketplace

StokData does not currently connect farmers directly with buyers or operate an agricultural marketplace. Platforms such as ePoultry and FarmHouse provide stronger marketplace ecosystems within their active markets.

You primarily need agricultural finance

StokData does not currently provide farm loans or input credit.

You want to purchase farm inputs inside the platform

StokData does not sell chicks, feed, vaccines or equipment.

You need Kenyan local-payment options

Kenyan farmers can currently pay using Visa or another supported card-payment method, but Kenya-specific local payment options are not yet available.

You require smart-farm hardware

StokData smart-farm monitoring is available where enabled for the customer's farm. Hardware, installation, connectivity and availability should therefore be confirmed for the farm's location before relying on it.

The bigger opportunity: running the farm as a business

African agriculture is becoming increasingly digital. But digitising a farm is not only about putting animal records onto a phone.

A farm is also a business:

  • Workers
  • Wages
  • Stock
  • Expenses
  • Sales
  • Security
  • Animals and poultry moving through production stages
  • Owners managing operations remotely

That is the space StokData Africa is building for. Instead of trying to become a marketplace, bank, input supplier and farm-management platform at the same time, StokData's core focus is simpler:

Help farmers understand and run the farm.

Choosing farm software in 2026

Do not choose farm technology simply because it has the most features. Choose it based on the problem you are trying to solve.

If your main challenge is buying inputs, accessing agricultural finance or finding buyers, an agricultural ecosystem may make sense.

If your challenge is knowing:

  • What is happening on my farm?
  • What is it costing me?
  • What are my workers doing?
  • What stock do I have?
  • How are my animals or poultry performing?
  • What is happening while I am away?

That is exactly the problem StokData is being built to solve.
